q2 to q4 roundup (forgive me)

taintedroseslook. i originally planned on posting life updates every quarter but suddenly* it became the busiest year of my LIFE (*it was, in fact, not sudden, because i knew it was gonna be hectic the moment the year started). but here we are now again at the bookends !! thank you for being here. i love you. i’m glad we both made it to 2023 ^^ here’s my media round-up for anything post-q1 :D
music
my listening activity declined immensely at around the third quarter of this year because my dad kept forgetting to pay for our family spotify subscription and helping him set up a new one through video call should be considered an extreme sport atp. regardless, i still apparently listened to more music than 87% of my country ??? and i’m still pretty satisfied with all the music i got to explore this year (even though i still have the exact same preferences i had last year LOL) ^^
top genres this year were: pop, k-pop, rap, indie pop, and indie r&b. top artists were: the boyz, billlie, yerin baek, chance the rapper, and francis and the lights. i wasn’t very satisfied with the comebacks from my ult groups past q1 but i did really like billlie’s b’rave ~ a song for matilda and the boyz’ sweet (which i believe could’ve been a BANGER tt btw, please rerealese this as a proper cb my boyz we won’t say a word i promise). i also liked the new kendrick T__T sorry for being basic.
also!! following up on my q1 round-up i still really enjoy spotify-generated playlists because (1) i spent a lot of my time this year on hour-long commutes, and (2) they require absolutely no effort in curation ^u^ some more favorites this year have been borderless, levitate, and (this one with a cringe title but banger sapphic yearner songs) sad girl starter pack.
my 2022 favorites in no particular order (excluding the ones mentioned in my q1 post):
books and fanfiction
i got extremely busy after graduation and didn’t get to fulfill my reading goal at all TT gonna keep my reading goal to a BARE MINIMUM next year and plan to read like, three books. the very few books i read past q1 that weren’t academic books were:
*they were all by japanese authors!! i’ve been really liking asian fiction writing, so if you have any recs please let me know!!
i did get to read a decent amount of fanfics though!! i’ve been trying to explore more fandoms and tinhat pairings recently too, so if you have any recs i would really appreciate them! here are some favorite reads from april to dec:

i spent most of my year watching through teleparty and kosmi with one person so i feel like those who are also friends with this other person will find the exact same shows on xer dreamwidth post HDSGFHSDFHHS. thank u kayla for watching these with me because i would not have sat myself down to consume these otherwise. i only watched queer media and cooking shows this year so if you’re looking for Good recs this is not the list for you LOL

- ms ice sandwich by meiko kawakami: a quirky little story about first love and loss in the point of view of a (neurodivergent?) young boy
- kitchen by banana yoshimoto: yet again another story about loss; more serious than ms ice sandwich though as it tackles more adult depictions of grief and the brevity of life
- if cats disappeared from the world by genki kawakamura: YET ANOTHER STORY ABOUT LOSS. this talks about family and grief in a light and humorous way but i cried like a baby on the plane. rip

- heartstopper (2022): do i really need to review this? everyone and their mothers watched this. just a fun coming-of-age YA show that will have u feeling like u are a teenager again ^^
- gameboys (2020): extremely cheesy filipino bl that’s just so terribly cringe that it’s a masterpiece actually??? 99% shot remotely (social media format) bc it was during pandemic timez, which also means it deals with fraught c0vid-in-the-family issues underneath the romance! watch with caution if that’s a sensitive topic for you
- gaya sa pelikula (2020): BURN IT. it’s an amazingly written filipino bl (pakyu parin jms) but it made me feel So Much that i want it to be gone from the internet and my memory forever T____T
- queer eye season 6 (2021): before i watched this show i only ever heard of it in jokes but it’s actually so heartwarming and fun?? yes i also believe antoni only ever does the bare minimum in each episode yes i still think he’s perfect yes we exist
- drag race philippines (2022): come on…. COME ON! i don’t watch anything else from the rpdr franchise but this first season of drph was so good. they really chose great first season queens! i was a vinas deluxe and precious paula nicole luvr the entire way.
- the cuphead show! (2022): yes i also spent time watching silly cartoons this year. loved the cuphead game. loved the cuphead show.
- bee and puppycat (2013?): another cartoon i watched this year! soooo good and the art style was so perfect TT i love PINK. and the lore was incredibly confusing but i cried like a loser every time cardamon has a moment with his mother.
- heartbreak high (2022): this one i watched by myself. it’s so CRAZY… the angst gets so frustrating that you wish you could just reach ur hand into the screen and make the characters COMMUNICATE. but then u remember that they are teenagers and no one is a good communicator in their teens. the styling and soundtrack to this were Insane though god i was so obsessed TT
- singles inferno season 2 (2022): i have to add this even though it’s not finished yet bc !!! god nothing i love more than cringe dating shows with scripted/manipulated drama!! mother is obsessed with jungkook cosplayer kim jinyoung and i think via osmosis i am now also obsessed. also my girl so-e is the only girl ever TT i see so much of myself in her (will not elaborate).
other life updates and plans for 2023
- i graduated this year!! i also spent a few months reviewing my ass off and passed my board exams so now i am a U.S. certified management accountant!! little ol’ me!! ^__^ so happy but it also means i have to face the adult world for real TT i wanna get a master’s degree but im not entirely sure if i want it bc i want it or i want it bc i just need the Structure and Routine of Being A Student again and don’t wanna face adulthood yet…. t__t
- i also have a gf now (i only tweet about it like, everyday)!! xe makes me so happy i could grow bread out of my hands like lucas grabeel in the adventures of food boy ;__; ♡
- not making anymore big writing and reading goals for next year because i know i won’t be able to achieve them anyway HSDHSFHFHSD i just want to be able to read at least three books and write at least one fic
- i hope next year billlie either go back to their murder mystery catholic school girl roots or explore bubblegum pop ^_^ and i hope tbz release more sweet-adjacent songs or maybe rerelease no air and giddy up. i have very simple wishes! (also i need a lewis wdc next year or else i will die)
